So over the past few days I have gotten the slightest bit sick. I think it’s cold season here, I have talked to a lot of people who say that they are getting sick or were recently sick. However, even with the large amount of people who have been sick, when I mention my scratchy throat, the conversation takes a turn. Read the rest of this entry »

OK. There is the new header for now anyway.

As you may or may not notice, I changed the theme of my blog today. For now please enjoy the ever charming Pharrell Williams as my header image until I:

So evidently at midnight we will also be eating 12 grapes and making a wish with each grape. This is all starting to sound like some wacky Double Dare obstacle course. What’s next? The traditional “climb the Tarzan-esque wrestler dummy” or the “slide through slime while being kicked by enormous mechanized shoes”?

Merry Christmas everyone! I know I have not had an update in a while but I have been pretty busy, and I don’t usually feel like sitting at the computer more after spending 9 hours sitting at the computer at work. Especially when I have to combat constant moquito bites as well as the heat and humidity, plus maintain some sort of sanity while the slow connection at home takes 10 minutes to load my “light version” hotmail. So generally I am not in the mood to endure all these hassles. And my only other alternative is to go down to Havanna and frankly it is a waste for me to be spending Gs 10,000 on coffee every night, especially considering it keeps me up too late! Unfortunately I didn’t get to see the fireworks. I was on my way there with Ruth and two of her cousins, when we got a flat tire!!! We were only 10 min. away from the place where the fireworks were. But unfortunately the buildings and trees were in the way and we couldn’t see them. So instead of doing that, we had to wait around for Ruth’s boyfriend to pick us all up. And we looked for an open tire shop (with no luck). We were all pretty disappointed that we couldn’t see the fireworks. And then to top it all off, while we were looking for the tire shop, someone hit and ran Ruth’s car. So she has a flat tire and a big dent in the door! It was not a very good night at all.

Today, I finally got some postcards! I am going to mail them out as soon as I get stamps. I am hoping I can mail them from work for free, but not sure. So check your mailboxes, I am hoping they will reach home sometime between Christmas and New Year’s but I have no idea how long it will take.

I get to sleep in, relax, swim… I probably could use my free time to get things done like “laundry” or those “postcards” that I haven’t gotten around to. But it is seriously great to just spend a few hours at the pool since the heat has been intense!

Tonight there is a Coca-Cola event downtown that Sol has been working on a lot. It is basically a fireworks show set to music after nightfall, and then some musical acts, jugglers, carolers, etc. beforehand. I am not really sure what to expect, I think it is sort of like a Christmas themed festival. Hopefully I will be going to that in a little bit with Ruth. Read the rest of this entry »

I am now back from Buenos Aires. Here is the day by day recap:

Thursday: there was a GIANT t-storm. On the way home from work the streets were 3 ft deep rivers. Sol and I pulled into a gas station for a while, then went to Havanna to eat and wait some more. It was 8:30 pm by the time I got home! The next day, there were a lot of trees that fell over, and branches that broke off. One tree fell on top of a person who was driving, causing one fatality from the storm.

Then on Friday we left for Buenos Aires. It was such a long bus ride. I took the same bus as two of my neighbors from the hotel. We were on the top end bus, it is pretty nice especially considering the price. And the seats were large enough to stretch out in. I tried to sleep as much as I can, but just couldn’t do it. Couldn’t really get comfortable. Read the rest of this entry »

Today I came back to Asuncion from Buenos Aires… it was a long ride!! Overall I had a great weekend, it was so refreshing to see another place, especially a big city. Asuncion and Buenos Aires are almost complete opposites. I have uploaded the photos already and I will also have a few videos uploaded shortly. I don’t have much time now to write, but I will tell all about my weekend tomorrow!

Just to let everyone know, I will be in Buenos Aires this weekend, visiting my friend Rachel from Kansas. It’s going to be so much fun!! I leave on Friday at 3 pm and arrive there 18 hours later at 10 am Saturday. I took Monday off from work, so I will probably leave Monday afternoon and get back to Asuncion in time for work on Tuesday. I will definitely take lots of photos!!!
